Step 2: Disclosure for e-Statement Application

PLEASE READ BEFORE ACCEPTING: Electronic Statement Disclosure

The following disclosure addresses the necessary steps required in order to participate in and to receive products and services electronically from Alpine Credit Union.

A statement cycle is defined as a month-end or quarter-end accounting period. Access to your statement information is provided through the credit union’s home banking program.

You will be required to sign up for Internet Banking access to receive your e-Statement. The e-Statement is easy to access and use.

  1. Log on to your account
  2. Click the e-Statement button
  3. Statements are delivered in a PDF format
  4. You can download the adobe reader for free at www.adobe.com
  5. You have access to the last several statements on your account

Email Reminders

You will receive an email alert once your e-Statement is ready. The alert will be sent to the most current email address provided to the credit union. The email will contain a link to our Internet Banking. Once you login, click on the e-Statement button and you will have access to your account statements.

Statement Availability

Your e-Statements are available online for 24 months. Access to this information is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You may also download and keep an electronic copy on your hard drive, or print a copy to your printer.

Enrolling for e-Statements

You can enroll for e-Statements at any time by visiting www.alpinecu.com and clicking on the e-Statements enrollment link.

Canceling e-Statements

BILL PAYING AGREEMENT/TERMS & CONDITIONS

ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible for Alpine Credit Union Bill Pay you must have the following services:

  1. Checking Account
  2. Internet Banking Access

This is your bill paying agreement with Alpine Credit Union. You may use Alpine Credit Union's bill paying service, ACU Billpay, to direct Alpine Credit Union to make payments from your designated checking account to the Payees you choose in accordance with this agreement. The terms and conditions of this Agreement are in addition to the Account agreements, disclosures and other documents in effect from time to time governing your account.

Account (the Account Rules)

"You" or "your" means each person who is authorized to use the service. "Payee" means anyone, including the Financial Institution, you designate and the Financial Institution accepts as a payee.

HOW TO SET UP PAYEES/PAYMENTS

Complete a bill paying enrollment form. IF YOU WANT TO ADD A NEW PAYEE, USE "SET UP ACCOUNTS/PAYEE" ON THE INTERNET OR SPEAK TO A SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE. You may add a new fixed payment to a Payee, only if the Payee is on your authorized list of payees, and by accessing the Service and entering the appropriate information. Most other additions, deletions, or changes can be made in writing or by using the Service.  The Financial Institution reserves the right to refuse the designation of a Payee for any reason. Each Payee accepted by the Financial Institution will be assigned a payee code. You may pay any payee you wish in the US. The Financial Institution is not responsible if a Bill Payment cannot be made due to incomplete, incorrect, or outdated information provided by you regarding a Payee or if you attempt to pay a Payee that is not on your Authorized Payee list.

THE BILL PAYING PROCESS

Single Payments

A single payment will be processed on the business day (generally Monday through Friday, except certain holidays) that you designate as the payment's process date, provided the payment is submitted prior to the daily cut-off time on that date. The daily cut-off time, which is controlled by the financial institution, is currently 2:00 pm. A single payment submitted after the cut-off time on the designated process date will be processed on the following business day.  If you designate a non-business date (generally weekends and certain holidays) as the payment's process date, the payment will be processed on the first business day following the designated process date.

Recurring Payments

When a recurring payment is processed, it is automatically rescheduled by the system. Based upon your selected frequency settings for the payment, a process date is calculated for the next occurrence of the payment. If the calculated process date is a non-business date (generally weekends and certain holidays), it is adjusted based upon the following rules:

If the recurring payment's "Pay Backward" option is selected, the process date for the new occurrence of the payment is adjusted to the first business date prior to the calculated process date. If the recurring payment's "Pay Backward" option is not selected (or if the "Pay Backward"option is not available), the process date for the new occurrence of the payment is adjusted to the first business date after the calculated process date.

Note: If your frequency settings for the recurring payment specify the 29th, 30th, or 31st as a particular day of the month for processing and that day does not exist in the month of the calculated process date, then the last calendar day of that month is used as the calculated process date.

For Single and Recurring Payments, YOU MUST ALLOW AT LEAST FIVE (5) BUSINESS DAYS, PRIOR TO THE DUE DATE, for each bill payment to reach the Payee. (For mid west subscribers, allow 7 days and for west coast subscribers, allow 8 days.) Any bill payment can be changed or canceled, provided you access the Bill Pay Service prior to the cut-off time on the business day prior to the business day the bill payment is going to be initiated.

You agree to have available and collected funds on deposit in the account you designate in amounts sufficient to pay for all bill payments requested, as well as, any other payment obligations you have to Alpine Credit Union  Alpine Credit Union reserves the right, without liability, to reject or reverse a bill payment if you fail to comply with this requirement or any other terms of this agreement.  If you do not have sufficient funds in the account and the Financial Institution has not exercised its right to reverse or reject a bill payment, you agree to pay for such payment obligations on demand.  You further agree that Alpine Credit Union, at its option, may charge any of your accounts with Alpine Credit Union to cover such payment obligations.

The financial institution reserves the right to change the cut-off time. You will receive notice if it changes.

LIABILITY

You are solely responsible for controlling the safekeeping of, and access to, your Personal Identification Number (PIN). You are liable for all transactions you make or that you authorize another person to make even if that person exceeds his or her authority. If you want to terminate another person's authority, you must notify Alpine Credit Union and arrange to change your PIN. You will be responsible for any Bill Payment request you make that contains an error or is a duplicate of another Bill Payment. Alpine Credit Union is not responsible for a Bill Payment that is not made if you did not properly follow the instructions for making a Bill Payment. Alpine Credit Union is not liable for any failure to make a Bill Payment if you fail to promptly notify Alpine Credit Union after you learn that you have not received credit from a Payee for a Bill Payment. Alpine Credit Union is not responsible for your acts or omissions or those of any other person, including, without limitation, any transmission or communications facility, and no such party shall be deemed to be Alpine Credit Union's agent.  In any event, Alpine Credit Union will not be liable for any special, consequential, incidental, or punitive losses, damages, or expenses in connection with this Agreement or the Service, even if Alpine Credit Union has knowledge of the possibility of them. Alpine Credit Union is not liable for any act, failure to act or delay in acting if it is caused, in whole or in part, by any cause beyond Alpine Credit Union's reasonable control.

*If you choose Extended Coverage on your consumer account, ATM withdrawals and everyday debit card transactions will be included with the transactions listed under Standard Coverage. If you already have Extended Overdraft Privilege coverage, it is not necessary to request it again. Business accounts automatically have Extended Coverage. You can discontinue Courtesy Pay in its entirety by contacting us at 866-355-9425 or sending us an email at service@alpinecu.com.

If you are receiving this communication via letter, please provide us with a valid email address to receive future communication via email rather than by postal service.

What Else You Should Know

  • A link to another suffix within your account or line of credit may be less expensive than an overdraft. A single larger overdraft will result in one fee, instead of multiple smaller overdrafts. Use our mobile, internet, and telephone banking services to track your balance. For financial education resources, please visit www.mymoney.gov.
  • The $25 Courtesy Pay Fee that is charged if you overdraw your account is the same fee that is charged if an item is returned as unpaid. If multiple items overdraw your account on the same day, each item will be assessed an appropriate Courtesy Pay Fee or a NSF Fee of $25. All fees and charges will be included as part of the Courtesy Pay limit amount. Your account may become overdrawn more than the Courtesy Pay limit amount because of a fee.
  • For consumer accounts, there is a limit of 5 Courtesy Pay Fees ($125) per day we will charge. We will not charge a Courtesy Pay Fee if a consumer account is overdrawn by less than $10. These exceptions do not apply to business accounts.
  • Recipients of federal or state benefits payments who do not wish us to deduct the amount overdrawn and the Courtesy Pay Fee from funds that you deposit or that are deposited into your account may call us at 866-355-9425 to discontinue Courtesy Pay.
  • If an item is returned because the Available Balance (as defined below) in your account is not sufficient to cover the item and the item is presented for payment again, Alpine Credit Union (“We”) will charge a NSF Fee each time we return the item because it exceeds the Available Balance in your account. Because we may charge a NSF Fee each time an item is presented, we may charge you more than one fee for any given item as a result of a returned item and representment of the item. When we charge a NSF Fee, the charge reduces the Available Balance in your account and may put your account into (or further into) overdraft. If, on representment of the item, the Available Balance in your account is sufficient to cover the item we may pay the item, and, if payment causes an overdraft, charge a Courtesy Pay Fee.
  • This describes the posting order for purposes of determining overdrafts. Our general policy is to post items throughout the day and to post ACH credits before debits. ATM and debit card transactions are posted in the order in which the items are received), while ACH and paper checks are posted lowest to highest dollar amount; however, because of the many ways we allow you to access your account, the posting order of individual items may differ from these general policies. Holds on funds (described herein) and the order in which transactions are posted may impact the total amount of Courtesy Pay Fees or NSF Fees assessed.
  • Courtesy Pay is not a line of credit; it is a discretionary overdraft service that can be withdrawn at any time without prior notice.
  • Depositor and each Authorized Signatory will continue to be liable, jointly and severally, for all overdraft and fee amounts, as described in the Funds Availability Disclosure. The total (negative) balance, including all fees and charges, is due and payable upon demand.
  • We may be obligated to pay some debit card transactions that are not authorized through the payment system but which we are required to pay due to the payment system rules, and as a result you may incur fees if such transactions overdraw your account. However, we will not authorize debit card or ATM transactions unless your account’s Available Balance (including Overdraft Coverage Options) is sufficient to cover the transactions and any fee(s).
  • Giving us your consent to pay everyday debit card and ATM overdrafts on your consumer account (Extended Coverage) may result in you incurring Courtesy Pay Fees for transactions that we would otherwise be required to pay without assessing a Courtesy Pay Fee. However, this would allow us to authorize transactions up to the amount of your Courtesy Pay limit. If you consent to Extended Coverage on your consumer account, it will remain on your account until it is otherwise withdrawn

Understanding your Available Balance: Your account has two kinds of balances: the Ledger Balance and the Available Balance.

  • We authorize and pay transactions using the Available Balance.
  • Your Ledger Balance reflects the full amount of all deposits to your account as well as payment transactions that have been posted to your account. It does not reflect checks you have written and are still outstanding or transactions that have been authorized but are still pending.
  • Your Available Balance is the amount available to you to use for purchases, withdrawals, or to cover transactions. The Available Balance is your Ledger Balance, less any holds due to pending debit card transactions and holds on deposited funds.
  • Available Balance plus the amount of the Courtesy Pay limit and any available Overdraft Protection.
  • Available Balance plus any available Overdraft Protection but does NOT include the Courtesy Pay limit.
  • Extended Coverage is your Available Balance plus any available Overdraft Protection and includes the Courtesy Pay limit.
  • Because your Available Balance reflects pending transactions and debit holds, your balance may appear to cover a transaction but later upon settlement it may not be sufficient to cover such transaction. In such cases, the transaction may further overdraw your account and be subject to additional overdraft fees. You should assume that any item which would overdraw your account based on your Available Balance may create an overdraft. Note that we may place a hold on deposited funds in accordance with our Funds Availability Disclosure, which will reduce the amount in your Available Balance.
  • Please be aware that the Courtesy Pay amount is not included in your Available Balance provided through online banking, mobile banking or Alpine Credit Union’s ATMs.
  • We will place a hold on your account for any authorized debit card transaction until the transaction settles (usually within two business days) or as permitted by payment system rules. In some cases, the hold may exceed the amount of the transaction. When the hold ends, the funds will be added to the Available Balance in your account. If your account is overdrawn after the held funds are added to the Available Balance and the transaction is posted to the Available Balance, a Courtesy Pay Fee may be assessed.
  • Except as described herein, we will not pay items if the Available Balance in your account (including the Courtesy Pay limit, if applicable) is not sufficient to cover the item(s) and the amount of any fee(s).

Understanding Courtesy Pay Limits

  • Courtesy Pay limit of $500 will be granted to eligible consumer checking accounts opened at least 30 days in good standing.
  • Courtesy Pay limit of $750 will be granted to eligible Business Checking accounts opened at least 60 days in good standing.
  • Courtesy Pay may be reduced if you default on any loan or other obligation to us, your account becomes subject to any legal or administrative order or levy, or if you fail to maintain your account in good standing by not bringing your account to a positive balance within 32 days for a minimum of one business day. You must bring your account balance positive for at least one business day to have the full Courtesy Pay limit reinstated.

If you have any questions about Overdraft Protection or Courtesy Pay, please call us at 866-355-9425 or visit a branch.
